How to cancel Duolingo
Cancel Super where you bought it: in the Duolingo app, on duolingo.com, or in your phone's App Store or Google Play subscriptions. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel it. You keep Super until the end of the period you paid for, your streak and progress stay, and Duolingo does not refund the unused part of a period.
Where did you subscribe?
In the Duolingo app (iPhone or Android)
- Open the Duolingo app.
- Tap the Super icon at the top of the home screen.
- Tap Settings (the gear icon).
- Tap “Manage subscription”.
- Select “Cancel subscription” and go on to cancel.
- Confirm the cancellation in the App Store, Google Play or Alipay.
On duolingo.com, in a web browser
- Sign in to your Duolingo account.
- Click your profile picture at the top of the home screen and choose “Settings”.
- Select “Super Duolingo”.
- Select “Cancel subscription” and confirm.
In your iPhone's or iPad's settings
- In Settings, tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Duolingo.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. If there is no Cancel button, or an expiry message shows in red, the subscription is already cancelled.
Duolingo sends iPhone subscribers to Apple's instructions; these are Apple's steps.
In Google Play (bought in the app on Android)
- On your Android phone or tablet, go to your subscriptions in Google Play.
- Select Duolingo.
- Tap Cancel subscription.
- Follow the instructions.
The Duolingo app sends Android subscribers to Google Play to confirm; these are Google's steps, and uninstalling the app does not cancel.
Through your Android phone's settings
- Send Duolingo a support request: its help page gives no self-service steps for a subscription started from the phone's settings.
After you cancel
- You can use Super until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Your streak and learning progress are not affected.
- You are no longer billed automatically, and you can start Super again at any time.
- Cancelling does not refund past payments, and a period is not refunded in part for the days left.
Getting money back
- Duolingo's own rule: charges for in-app purchases are generally non-refundable, with no refunds or credits for part-used periods.
- Bought on an iPhone or iPad: refunds are Apple's to decide, not Duolingo's. Sign in to reportaproblem.apple.com, choose “Request a refund”, give the reason and choose the subscription; Apple says to expect an update in 24 to 48 hours.
- Bought on duolingo.com: sign in, click the Super icon, scroll to the option to contact Duolingo support and say in the email that you need a refund for your web subscription. Someone from its support team reviews the request.
- Bought on Android: contact Duolingo support, choose “Purchase Issue” and say that you need a refund. Google Play also takes refund requests for some purchases under its own policies, and says to allow 1 to 4 days for a decision.
