Is Preply worth it?

Yes, if you want a private tutor and want to see each tutor's price before you book.

What it costs. Set by each tutor: $3 to $50 a lesson on Preply's English tutor listing (checked 6 Sept 2026). At Preply's own averages, from $10 a 50-minute lesson in Arabic to $22 in Italian, one lesson a week is about $520 to $1,144 a year. Prices by language are under Plans and prices.

What's free. No free tier; paid trial lesson.

Skip it if you want to study alone in an app: every lesson is with a tutor, paid in a plan that renews every 28 days.

What learners rate it. 4.8 out of 5 from 44,896 ratings in Apple's US App Store and 4.7 from 64,488 on Google Play, checked 11 Oct 2026.

How a lesson works in a tutor marketplace

On a tutor marketplace you choose a teacher by price and reviews, book a time, and have a live video lesson. Drawn to explain the kind of app, not taken from any app's screens.

Speaking and feedback

Live conversation with a tutor. Choose someone who offers the feedback and lesson style you want.

Before you choose

Skip it if you only want unscheduled free practice: continued lessons use a paid subscription.

Grammar
Ask the tutor how they explain grammar and adapt the lesson to your weak spots. There is no single curriculum across tutors.
Review
Ask your tutor to set review between lessons.
Course depth
Level fit depends on the individual tutor. Check their teaching languages, experience and lesson plan.

Plans and prices

Every consumer plan on Preply's own pricing page or app-store listing, in US dollars unless marked. Per month is the plan price divided by its term. Each price is what the seller was charging on the day we checked it. When a plan was on sale, its regular price is shown under the sale price; a crossed-out figure that is only a comparison, such as a year at the monthly rate, is in the plan's note.
