How to cancel Tandem
Tandem Pro is sold in the iPhone and Android apps, so you cancel it with Apple or Google: in your iPhone's Settings under Subscriptions, or in Google Play's subscriptions. Deleting your account or the app does not cancel it. Once cancelled, Pro runs to the end of the period you paid for and does not renew. Bought on Android, Tandem refunds you within 14 days of a 1-month plan or 30 days of a 3- or 12-month plan; on an iPhone, Apple decides.
Where did you subscribe?
In your iPhone's or iPad's settings (bought in the iPhone app)
- In Settings, tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Tandem.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. If there is no Cancel button, or an expiry message shows in red, the subscription is already cancelled.
Tandem sends iPhone subscribers to their Apple subscriptions; these are Apple's steps. Some of Tandem's help articles still name an older menu, iTunes & App Store.
In Google Play (bought in the Android app)
- On your Android phone or tablet, go to your subscriptions in Google Play (or, in a web browser, play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions).
- Select Tandem.
- Tap Cancel subscription.
- Follow the instructions.
Tandem sends Android subscribers to Google Play; these are Google's steps, and uninstalling the app does not cancel.
On the web, the free trial and deleting your account
On the web
Tandem's help centre says Pro can't be bought on Tandem Web yet, so there is nothing to cancel there, although its terms mention buying on the website.
The free trial
A free trial of Pro turns into a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel it first, in your Apple or Google Play subscriptions. You get one free trial per Apple or Google Play account. Tandem's pages don't say how long the trial is.
Deleting your account
Profile, then Settings, then Delete my account; it is permanent, and it does not cancel Pro, so cancel with Apple or Google first. Your personal information is deleted, but the messages you sent to partners are kept unless you ask Tandem's support to delete them too.
After you cancel
- You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for, and it does not renew.
- Then the features Pro adds go, among them audio and video calls, up to 30 new people to message a day, seeing who visited your profile, and no ads. Your Tandem account itself stays: Pro is a separate contract from the free account.
Getting money back
- Bought on Android, less than 48 hours ago: ask Google Play for the refund.
- Bought on Android, after 48 hours: Tandem refunds you within 14 days of a 1-month subscription, or within 30 days of a 3-month or 12-month one. Send your Google Play receipt and your email address through Tandem's contact form.
- Bought on an iPhone: Apple handles every payment and refund. Use the link in your purchase confirmation email, or reportaproblem.apple.com; Tandem's FAQ says to ask within 14 days of buying.
- Tandem's terms call every purchase final apart from the 14-day right of withdrawal they give consumers; its help centre and FAQ promise the Android refunds above.
