Is Renshuu worth it?
Yes, if you are learning Japanese from a textbook, a class or for the JLPT and want its words, kanji and grammar drilled free, in quizzes that bring back what you get wrong.
What it costs. Free to use for good. To pay for more, a year costs $49.99 ($4.17 a month); lifetime access is $109.99 once. Lifetime costs the same as 2.2 years of the yearly plan.
What's free. Free for good, with no ads, no paywall and no daily limit. Renshuu pro is optional: it adds listening and sentence quizzes and more example sentences for each grammar point, and locks no grammar away.
Skip it if you want to learn to speak, or any language but Japanese: Renshuu quizzes what you read and hear, with no speaking practice.
What learners rate it. 4.9 out of 5 from 1,432 ratings in Apple's US App Store and 4.9 from 15,718 on Google Play (renshuu - Japanese learning), checked 16 Oct 2026.

How a Renshuu lesson works
- What you do
- Pick a path for your textbook, the JLPT or just learning, study a short set of words, kanji or a grammar point with its example sentences and audio, then answer quizzes in many styles, by choosing, typing or writing; items you get wrong come back sooner, and games and a mascot reward the work.
- What comes back
- Automatic: exercises are marked right or wrong. No person checks your work.
- Not included
- A live teacher or stated CEFR levels.

Plans and prices
Every consumer plan on Renshuu's own pricing page or app-store listing, in US dollars unless marked. Per month is the plan price divided by its term. Where the seller shows a crossed-out price beside the one it charges, the figure is the one it charges, and the plan's note gives the crossed-out price.

| What it is | Vocabulary and flashcards. Japanese vocabulary, kanji, grammar and sentences on the web and in iPhone and Android apps, quizzed on its own spaced-repetition schedule that breaks each item into its parts. Learning paths follow most textbooks (Genki, Minna no Nihongo, Tobira), the JLPT and Kanji Kentei, and over 10,000 lessons made by other learners; dozens of question styles take answers by multiple choice, typing or writing. Games, a mascot that evolves as you learn and unlockable manga pages keep it light, and all of it can be switched off. |
